Who Qualifies for Germany Opportunity Card 2026
Two routes exist. The recognized-qualification path requires a foreign vocational or academic qualification recognized in Germany. The points-based path requires at least six points from professional experience, language skills, age, and connection to Germany.
The Points System: How the Six Points Are Built
Work experience gives 2 points for 2 years in the last 5, or 3 points for 5 years in the last 7. Language: German B2 or above gives 3 points, B1 gives 2, A2 gives 1, English C1 gives 1 bonus point. Age and connection to Germany can also contribute.
Documents, Language, and Financial Proof
Applicants must show at least 1,091 euros per month through a blocked account or declaration of commitment. Degree holders need a positive Anabin result or Statement of Comparability. Stronger German materially expands employability.
How to Apply and What Timeline to Expect
Apply through the German digital consular system. The card is issued for maximum one year. During that year, holders can search for work, take part-time employment up to 20 hours per week, and do trial work with employers.
Common Mistakes
Assuming the card is open to anyone with a degree. Underestimating financial proof requirements. Treating English as enough for every field. Applying without proper documentary alignment.
